Outcome: Participants will verbalize an increased knowledge of current advances in orthopedic surgery and pain management strategies.  

Target Audience: All nurses involved in the care of the perianesthesia patient.

Speaker Information:

Margaret (Meg) Beturne, MSN RN CPAN CAPA, is the Assistant Nurse Manager of PAT/Pre-Op and PACU @ Baystate Orthopedic Surgery Center. She has over 40 years of perianesthesia nursing experience. Margaret (Meg) is an active member of MASPAN/ASPAN and has held a variety of leadership positions within both organizations. She is a past ASPAN President (2005-2006) and remains an active member of several committees including education provider, leadership development and resource development. Meg is the current Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee for MASPAN. Meg is a popular guest speaker locally, nationally and internationally. In addition to her perianesthesia activities, Meg is an active member of several (countless) volunteer organizations including Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Study Home, and Elm’s College Alumni Board.

Maureen McLaughlin, MS, RN, ACNS-BC, CPAN, CAPA has over 30 years of perianesthesia nursing experience and is considered a perianesthesia nurse expert. She has held a variety of clinical leadership roles including PACU Clinical Educator, Clinical Nurse Specialist of Procedural Sedation, Critical Care Clinical Educator and at present the Quality Nurse, Department of Anesthesia. Maureen is a frequent lecturer on medication safety, standards of care, care of the critical care patient in the PACU and post anesthesia complications.

Accreditation: This activity has been submitted to the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses for approval to award contact hours. The American Association of Critical-Care Nurses is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
