PeriAnesthesia Nurses Awareness Week 2024 PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, perianesthesia nurses specialize in the care of patients immediately before and after the administration of anesthesia for invasive procedures; and
WHEREAS, serving in settings ranging from traditional hospital-based surgical centers to ambulatory surgery centers and physicians’ offices, perianesthesia nurses work to provide the safest care possible for patients undergoing anesthesia for surgical and other invasive procedures; and
WHEREAS, perianesthesia nurses assess individual patient needs prior to and immediately after the surgical or invasive experience, develop, implement, and continuously evaluate a plan for the care of the patient, and prepare the patient for the invasive procedure and help the patient recover from the procedure to proceed to the next level of care or for discharge to home; and
WHEREAS, perianesthesia nurses are responsible for monitoring all aspects of the patient’s condition for the duration of preoperative and postoperative phases and, through professional and patient-centered expertise, are responsible for care coordination both before admission to the center and after discharge from the post anesthesia care unit to home; and
WHEREAS, patients undergoing surgery and other invasive procedures and their loved ones rely on the skills, knowledge, and expertise of perianesthesia registered nurses, who uphold a long tradition of improving anesthesia safety and the quality of patient care; and
WHEREAS, Perianesthesia Nurse Awareness Week recognizes the contributions perianesthesia registered nurses make to patient safety and the opportunities and challenges facing the profession; now, therefore, be it
Resolved, I, Danielle W. Gregoire, do hereby proclaim February 5-11, 2024, Perianesthesia Nurses Awareness Week.
